| Commercial galleries Madrid is the Spanish city with the greatest concentration of art galleries. For around 30 years ago, galleries have been proliferating, first in the Salamanca area, later in Chueca and Alonso Martínez and more recently in Atocha, around the Reina Sofía museum, Of course a number of excellent galleries can be in other districts too. Like most other businesses in Madrid, many art galleries are closed in August, and many are also closed on Sundays and Mondays.
